From Kakatiya-era settlements to a modern urban municipality — Miryalaguda's story spans centuries.

Ancient–Medieval
Kakatiya & Early Settlements
The Nalgonda region was part of the Kakatiya kingdom (900–1323 CE), one of the great Telugu dynasties. The area contains archaeological evidence of early settlement and trade routes through the Deccan plateau.
14th–17th Century
Bahmani & Vijayanagara Period
The region passed through the control of the Bahmani Sultanate and later the Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golconda. Trade routes through the Deccan brought gradual settlement and growth.
18th–19th Century
Nizam's Hyderabad
Under the Nizams of Hyderabad, Miryalaguda developed as a regional market town. The town's strategic position on the Secunderabad–Guntur route contributed to its commercial importance.
1955–1967
Nagarjuna Sagar Dam Construction
The construction of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam transformed Miryalaguda's agricultural economy. The Left Canal brought irrigation water to the region, enabling large-scale rice cultivation and earning the city its "Rice Bowl" identity.
2014
Formation of Telangana State
Miryalaguda became part of the newly formed state of Telangana when it was carved out of Andhra Pradesh. The city embraced its Telangana identity and the cultural pride of the new state.
2018
Skoch Award for Urban Reforms
Miryalaguda Municipal Council received the Skoch Award for Excellence in Urban Reforms — national recognition for governance innovation and urban development under the AMRUT mission.
